Kamala sits down with Fat Joe “We need to legalize marijuana”.
In earlier news this week Vice President Kamala Harris had her long-awaited meeting with Fat Joe. Fat Joe is a renowned five-time Grammy nominee and highly recognized rapper. Notably, Fat Joe was pardoned for his cannabis-related charges earlier in the year thanks to President Biden. One of the main highlights of the conversation, was when Harris proclaimed the legalization of Cannabis stating loudly “We need to legalize marijuana”. The main theme throughout was clemency and criminal justice. Within the discussion, the conversation pivoted toward addressing governors across the country to adopt more cannabis advocacy practices, such as expunging cannabis-related charges and adopting legalization. The subject of scheduling review was brought to light as well, it seems that the White House doesn’t have a pulse on what direction the DEA will go. The country awaits eagerly for more news on de/rescheduling.
One misunderstood concept in the Minnesota market is the difference between Delta-8 and Delta-9 THC. It is important to understand that the cannabis plant comprises over 400 active compounds, including cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids, each offering unique therapeutic properties. The main naturally occurring cannabinoids, cannabidiol (CBD) and delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) interact with the body's endocannabinoid system. You’re probably asking yourself what is the “endocannabinoid system”. This system is like a body's internal messaging system, using cannabinoids to communicate and keep things balanced, kind of like a conductor in an orchestra ensuring harmony among all the instruments. These molecules working together produce effects like pain relief, inflammation reduction, stress alleviation, and sedation. Research indicates that the combined action of these compounds, known as the entourage effect, enhances their efficacy.
Minor cannabinoids, such as delta-8 THC, are gaining attention throughout the United States due to the ease of access and traction through a multitude of internet outlets. Understanding the differences in molecular structure, effects, and legal status between delta-8 THC and delta-9 THC can inform decisions regarding consumption and production within the bounds of the law. Delta-8 THC is found in lower concentrations in the cannabis plant. Its extraction from hemp plants takes more time and labor. Since delta-8 doesn’t naturally occur, the CBD isolate must undergo a synthetic conversion process using solvents, acids, and regents to convert into delta-8 THC. Once additives are introduced, there become unanswered questions of the potential risks and side effects that relate to this understudied and researched cannabinoid.
