Gen Z Favors Cannabis, Prioritizes Health Over Drinking and Late Nights
Sweetleaves Home, located in the North Loop, Minneapolis, allows us to follow and adapt to the trends of Gen Z and Millennials. We believe that more young people are turning to cannabis as an alternative to alcohol. I hear more and more from friends: “I went to the comedy club and took a gummy and didn’t stop laughing until I got home, and I didn’t have a single drink!” The latest article in High Times affirms this theory: “A New Frontier Data report from 2022 shows that 69% of people between 18-24 prefer cannabis over alcohol, while the same preference is seen with 70% of those 25-34.” With the internet and the plethora of resources at their fingertips, these younger generations are learning that cannabis has more benefits than what their older peers claim.
Younger generations are also shown to choose to stay in vs going out. “A recent survey confirms that this sentiment was present even before the pandemic, with ‘67% of 19-37-year-olds telling YPulse in January this year that they would rather stay in on the weekends than go out.’” We believe there is a correlation between staying in and choosing cannabis over alcohol. Not only that but also the emphasis on physical and mental health by Gen Z also has a potential correlation with the shift to cannabis. We’re excited to not only serve cannabis enthusiasts but also new users and folks who want to learn more about the plant, its effects, and the flavors they have.
