What 4/20 means to Sweetleaves
With 4/20 yesterday, this weekend was treated as a national holiday by the SweetLeaves team. 4/20 symbolizes a breath of fresh air, the end of the prohibition on cannabis, and the freedom to be able to consume the plant without the worry of any legal repercussions. It also is a day that our community can come together despite political, cultural, and ideological differences. Personally, this year was entirely different for me. As the co-founder of SweetLeaves, 4/20 now has a monumental meaning. It marks the beginning of a new era for the North Loop community and Minnesota’s first 4/20 as a legal state. The impact that our team has positioned to make is greater than just our local community. The SweetLeaves space serves as a hub for tourists to experience a dispensary like no other in the state. This holiday represents legacy members and new users coming together and exploring a plant that can have medicinal and recreational benefits.
The most recent article in High Times speaks about how smoking cannabis is not the same alone as doing it with others. This article resonated with me. As someone with a busy life, smoking alone is typically the only way I consume. However, 4/20 was a time for me to step away and surround myself with others who have a passion for the plant, and provided me with a theme of “community”. Community and Personal Relationships symbolize the core value of SweetLeaves. Unfortunately, we won’t be open this year; however, we are already looking forward to 2025 when our 4/20 plans are larger than life. We can’t wait to share them with the Minneapolis community.
